I’ve been saving shopping list apps on my iPhone for awhile now to prepare for a post on the best shopping list apps for your iPhone and today, I had the pleasure of deleting them all and clearing up some space on my phone.
President’s Choice has launched their new points program and it is packed with some great features. Combining recipes, a shopping list, rewards points and a record of your transactions all into one program and it is extremely to manage all in an app you can download for your iPhone (app also available at Google Play and Blackberry App World).
Signing up was easy, I just downloaded the app, followed the prompts and linked it to my PC debit card. It pulled my information (including my current points) right into the app and I was free to begin using it.
The recipe section is loaded with a large number of recipe ideas and I found a bunch of new slow cooker recipes I now need to try out. When I found a recipe I wanted to try for the week, I added it to my favorites so I didn’t have to go looking for it again and I was able to automatically add the ingredients right into my grocery list that is included in the app. I could also remove the ingredients I already had at home.
The grocery list is easy to use and I can switch between having my foods listed by department (for quick shopping), or by recipe (if I saved ingredients from one of their many recipe options). When I add a new item to my grocery list, I simply choose which department it will be in and if I consider it a staple (ie. I’m buying it every week). When I go to add food to my grocery list going forward, I have the option of adding in all of my staples which will actually save me time when I create our weekly grocery shopping and I am adding everything on to my phone.
The PC Plus card also comes with a list of offers that you can load into your card and take advantage of on check out. Many of the items are on my list anyway so it is nice to automatically earn extra points for buying items I was already going to. Not only that, but as you use your card more, PC Plus will begin to tailor the offers to items it notices that you are always picking up.
I am a big fan of saving up all year long and cashing in my points around the holidays which is usually when I go overboard with spreading the Christmas cheer. This is the time of year when we entertain, send cards, travel, buy gifts, buy new outfits, and bake at an excessive level so every little bit helps.
Update: I’ve used the points program for the first time tonight and there were a couple of small things to note and items I’d love to see added.
- When we have offers on the iPhone, I’d love to see a button so we can automatically add that item to our grocery list.
- I noticed the iPhone app moves a little slow when I am crossing items off my list.
- The app froze on me once when I was moving between screens. I closed out of the app completely and when I opened it back up, all of my groceries that I had previously crossed off, were back on my list.
All in all, this is still a great app. I noticed on Facebook that President’s Choice has been very proactive in answering questions about the app and offering assistance. As with any new app, there are bound to be some hurdles and they are doing a great job of working with everyone who has concerns.
To get started, you can visit the PC Plus website or you can search ‘PC Plus’ in your App store on your phone and follow the directions.

Great new way to earn more points! Such a great app – still glitches in it from the reviews I have read, but excellent regardless
After using it for the first time tonight, I did have some things that could be improved on. I included them above. You are right though. It is great regardless and I’m glad that this is in place.
Didn’t know they had an app so will have to get it and start using it when we shop at Superstore. Thanks for the advice.
Thanks Betty. It was really easy to use and the points add up fast.
