Escape the Bank: Experience the Servus Mobile Escape Room in Edmonton

The Servus Heritage festival in Edmonton has long been a favourite local event of mine. The combination of amazing food, music, and cultures coming together for what feels like the last long weekend of summer, is truly something special. There is so much more to the festival than the food, music and cultures though. Amazing sponsors, which make it possible add an extra dimension of excitement that is palpable.

This year’s title sponsor, Servus Credit Union, has come up with a wonderfully unique and fun way for families to experience the thrill that an escape room offers, while also offering up the chance to hone their financial literacy skills.

“Servus Credit union takes a lot of pride in providing killer advice to our members, and provide some financial literacy as well. As a part of that we have brought a trailer along with us this year called Escape the Bank. It’s a unique way for event goers to go through some challenges and learn some financial literacy concepts along the way.” – James Thomas, District Manager Retail Operations, Servus Credit Union.

You are in a dark, windowless room with only 10 minutes to crack the code that opens the door to your freedom. As you frantically try to crack the clues and break out of the bank, you can feel the sweat dripping down your spine, and hear the clock ticking by ominously in the background. Using your wit can you sleuth your way through the room to crack the codes, and balance your budget, to escape the bank?

Servus has partnered with The Locked Room to retrofit a mobile trailer into an escape room and staged it to resemble an old stodgy bank. Once you enter the mobile escape room, the clock starts ticking, and you only have 10 minutes to solve puzzles to advance through the trailer, and eventually escape!

I took my oldest and youngest daughter through the escape room and I can vouch that it’s challenging, fun, exciting, and a great way to take a break from the crowds and noise of the event.

For the entirety of the August long weekend (Aug 5-7th) visit the Servus Pavilion in the heart of the Heritage festival, near the Chinese Pavilion, to take a little break and recharge both yourself and your phones in the cool comfort of their tent. While there take the chance to experience their unique take on an escape room. It’s a fun and informative way to challenge yourself and get a taste of what makes Servus Credit Union stand out from other banks. Also make sure to visit the video booth and answer a few fun questions for your chance to take home some useful prizes.

The mobile escape room is part of Servus Summer – a broader, province-wide initiative to host and sponsor a range of events within various communities in Alberta. For more information, and where else to find the mobile escape room, visit www.servus.ca/summer.
