Escents is a Canadian aromatherapy store that features all natural health and body products scented with essential oils. They carry a wide range of products including pure essential oils, aroma oil blends, home fragrances, diffusers, and natural bath & body products. They have just opened their first Alberta store at West Edmonton Mall (they are based out of BC), and I got a chance to check it out on behalf of This Bird’s Day.
What I loved about Escents
There is a wall of all their essential oils that you can use to customize any of their unscented products (lotions & body butters, roll-on, aroma mist, salt body scrub, massage/bath oil, shampoo and conditioner). For an additional charge, you can add any combination of essential oils to make your own custom blend.
The staff are very knowledgeable about the benefits of the different oils. I wanted something that was good for the eczema on my hands, so the staff suggested a blend of Blue Chamomile, High Alpine Lavender, and Bergamot in their organic shea & cocoa body butter. I also got to make my own roll-on blend (essential oils in carrier oils that come in a bottle with a roller top so you can easily roll it on!) – we chose Frankincense, Raphael (blend of Ylang Ylang and Sandalwood), and Rosemary.
The staff are fantastic about getting the right combination for you so there’s lot of smelling and testing before you get your product to take home. They also keep a customer file for you with the recipes you have gotten, so if you love it, you can get the same thing next time, or if you need something different, they can try tweaking it the next time you go in.
Wide range of pre-scented products
As much as I love to DIY my own things with essential oils, I understand that there is something to be said for being able to go into a store and pick up something off the shelf for a specific ailment. I was impressed with the range of products available for different things like cold and flu, sleep and stress, muscle aches, headaches, energy and relaxation.
They have little inhaler sticks you can use for stress, sleep, and staying alert that are easy to pop into your pocket or purse and use when you need it. There are also sprays, lotions, roll-ons, body balms and bath bombs available.
Their diffuser wall has a great variety of diffusers ranging in size and style, and it’s easy to see the coverage area it’s good for, as well as how long the diffuser can run.
Escents oils are obtained through a third party (they don’t distill the oils or work with the farms that grow the raw materials), so unfortunately that doesn’t allow for good information about the growing and distilling processes and ultimate quality of the oils.
I really like the concept of what Escents offers, so I would say that it’s a fun place to go and explore essential oils if you’ve never looked into them before.
The West Edmonton Mall store is the first in Alberta, and they are planning to open more stores across Canada. If there isn’t a store in your city yet, their website is full of products (and you get free shipping over $75).
