Creative play is an important part of a child’s development. Through being creative while playing, they grow their imaginations, gain confidence in themselves and their abilities, understand that the world is what we make it, and find and recognize beauty and inspiration all around them.
I love when our oldest daughter tells me a long drawn out story. It doesn’t always make sense, but when she gets to the last line, she smiles and is satisfied that she told a story that needed telling and that she added to our creative world.
In the summer months, our oldest likes to go on walks to find ‘treasure’. This can include dandelions, leaves, pine cones and rocks. Since she brings so much home, we often try to find different ways to incorporate her love of nature in to crafts that we can all enjoy. A couple of favorite crafts from outside include making designs on paper with glue and sprinkling sand all over. Wait until the glue dries and you have a work of art. You can also use a glue stick to glue sand to the bottom half of your paper and gently create a beach scene. Another favorite craft is in the fall when we go looking for fallen leaves that have dried out just enough to dip them in paint (you can get the washable paint by Crayola). After you dip them in the paint, you can dab them on your paper and once they dry, you can put eyes on them and draw arms and legs and make funny monsters.
Whether you draw, paint, bake, sculpt, dance, read, pretend or play an instrument; creative play is a so beneficial and both Energizer and Crayola realize this.
From today, June 25 to October 1, Energier and Crayola have come together to create ‘Free Their Imagination’. This is an hourly draw where you can enter for the chance to win prizes. There are over 2,000 crayola prizes to be won. To enter, visit The Energizer Bunny Canada Facebook page and click on the tab.
