If it wasn’t for Monday, I would have begged for a do-over for the long weekend!
First, Papa Bird had to work on Saturday and Sunday and then it poured from Friday to Sunday – and it was cold. I had a meeting with some colleagues, then the rest of the rainy days were spent visiting with my mom and dad who were passing through town on their way up to Alaska in their RV – lucky ducks.
I was able to get some chores and unpacking done inside the house, but Baby Bird fell sick on Saturday with a cold that lasted up until Sunday night.
Then it happened…
The skies opened up, the sun peeked through, Papa Bird had a day off on Monday and Baby Bird felt better!
Monday was a wonderful, busy, outside day. We spent from morning to night outside. Our yard needs a LOT of work. Papa Bird ordered 3 yards of soil and the guys got busy leveling areas and planting new grass.
I spent the day in the garden and it was heaven. I planted all of our vegetables. I will try to list them, but from memory, here’s what went into the ground:
- 12 corn plants, 14 corn seeds
- 16 heritage tomato plants
- 3 ground cherries
- 2 gooseberries
- 1 jalapeno
- 1 sweet pepper
- 6 blue potatoes
- 6 red potatoes
- 3 garlic
- 12 beans
- 7 peas
- 6 broccoli
- 5 cauliflower, 5 cheddar cauliflower
- 1 row red onions
- 1 row white onions
- 1 row carrots
- 1 row radishes
- 2 cucumbers
Here’s what my garden looked like after the planting was done.
