When I was growing up, our neighbourhood playground was where it was at. Being an ‘army brat’, we had our fair share of moving, and one thing that always remained constant was that the local playground was always the place to find your friends, or meet new ones. We never had to ‘make plans’ on where and when to meet. When we could, we would just show up and there was always hours of fun waiting.
Since many of those same playgrounds are still around today, they are showing their age and some are even becoming hazard areas. Wood splinters, metal rusts and tires break down and since having my own children, I’ve realized that those things just don’t fix themselves.
Waiting for government funding is a waste of energy and more times than not, it falls back on the communities to raise their own money and just fix things themselves.
Kraft Canada and TSN have launched their fifth annual Kraft Celebration Tour and anyone across Canada can nominate their city or town for the chance to win $25,000 toward a community project that improves an existing space or helps create a brand new one. Not only that, but each winning community will also host one of 10 live broadcasts of Canada’s most-watched sports news program, TSN, as part of this summer’s cross-country tour from August 16-25.
How to Enter the Kraft Celebration Tour
- Canadians can nominate their community online at kraftcelebrationtour.ca and tourneedecelebrationkraft.ca until June 7. Its a quick turnaround on this one, you have one week to organize and get your entry in to make it to the next stage.
- To nominate a community, Canadians are asked to submit a short essay and up to five photos explaining why their community deserves to be a part of the Kraft Celebration Tour and how the $25,000 community award will go towards the creation or improvement of a local community space. The essay should also touch upon how the award would help promote community spirit, a passion for sports, and an active lifestyle.
- On June 30, TSN and RDS will announce the 20 finalists selected by a panel of judges. Then it’s up to Canada to decide the 10 winning Kraft Celebration Tour stops via 10 weekdays of head-to-head online voting beginning July 8.
To keep up with new information, you can like the Kraft Celebration Tour Fan Page on Facebook and by following the official Twitter hashtags for the Kraft Celebration Tour which are #KCT and #tourneedecelebrationkraft.
A total of 10 communities will be awarded this prize, will yours be one of them?
