Kids have been in school now for a month and I am amazed at how much they learn and grow each day. Our daughter has been learning how to learn in her first grade class and is enjoying everything so far, despite the fact that they ‘don’t play as much as they did in kindergarten’.
I try to pack in extra learning at home as well through walks, reading, playing and the choices we make in the movies we watch.
I love movies that spark conversation, imagination, and curiosity, and movies that teach important life skills are a bonus.
Here is a list of movies that are great options for growing minds.
For the younger kids
For the grade-school kids
For the older kids
Each show has age-appropriate lessons in various skills such as teamwork, determination, social skills, confidence, stewardship, and friendship to name a few.
Watching the movies are great, but starting conversations around what happened during the movie is even better. Here are some starter questions.
- Do you think what he/she did was right? Why?
- What could they have done differently?
- What should they do now to make it right (better)?
- What would you have done differently?
- What would you say to them if you could?
